Glo Sessions

Biography

Born in Waltham, MA on March 22, 1922. Sessions graduated from Skidmore College in 1943, then moved to Greenwich Village in New York City, and worked in the advertising department at Macy’s. While in New York, she met her future husband, James McCall Sessions. Married in 1945, the couple soon moved to Paso Robles in California where Lieutenant Sessions was stationed.

After the war ended, they would move to Bristol, where James Sessions would later become the president of J.H. Sessions and Son, and Glo Sessions would concentrate on her artwork for the next 50 years, creating paintings, etchings, and sculpture and exhibiting those pieces along the Eastern seaboard from Washington DC to Maine. Glo worked in two studios: one in her home, and one in the family business, J. H. Sessions & Son, on Riverside Avenue in Bristol. She would receive over 40 awards for her work.

as well as a founding member of the Gallery on the Green in Canton, CT.

Her work is in the permanent collections of the Bristol Historical Society, the Bristol Public Library, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and the Glo Sessions Gallery at the Carousel Museum.
